Dear YMCA Friends,

Again this year, we are proud to share with you  a snapshot into the life of the YMCA in our community over the past year.  Like every year, the pictures you will see are fresh, the faces are new but the stories are so familiar.  This familiarity is because this year we celebrate 125 years of work in Dallas...125 years to make millions of memories for kids and families...125 years to build muscles and build character...125 years to weave the mission of the YMCA into the fabric of this community.

Beginning in 1885, the YMCA has served as a cornerstone of service to downtown Dallas when the streets were dirt and the carriages had horses. Then, as the city grew up into a major metropolitan area we have expanded our services and our facilities to twenty three branch locations and two camps in seven counties, 16 school districts, hundreds of neighborhoods and millions of living rooms that have all embraced the mission of the YMCA and benefited from the work of our volunteers and staff.

In a very challenging social and economic environment, the success and progress of the YMCA in 2009 is documented in the following pages.  What is harder to measure is the impact of our organization over the past 125 years.  That story is best told by people like you and your family.

Thanks for all you do to help the YMCA build strong kids, strong families and strong communities for the next century!
